Sunday, January 27, 2008 || you're an animal, viskovity!

it's a great book for planners - cause the reader is offered so many different perspectives on the world, each subjected to different rules, different "cultures", different social constraints. This happens cause the reader is invited to step into Viskovitz's shoes, who "reincarnates" into 20 different creatures, each of them featured in a different short story. And of course, the hilarious fables are actually insights into the human nature.
i must say i totally love the books that don't really end with the last page, but inspire you to look for something else as well. And that's what happened with this one - its language is very biology-playful, combining scientifical terms with very common terms in quite a funny way . It's really nice when some joke helps you start learning something a bit more serious.

Sunday, January 20, 2008 || mushishi

Mushishi is about a one-eyed, white-haired guy named Ginko, who is a Mushi expert, traveling around to no end. Mushi are esoteric life forms, simplistic organisms from long ago living in the most primitive state of life. However, they possess mysterious power. Each episode typically deals with one of his encounters with a specific type of mushi.
Each episode tells a different story.Mushishi evokes many different emotions while viewing it. Some episodes may have a really nice ending, while others can be really sad. The beautiful background music amplifies these effects.
The animation was naturalistic, going very well with the storyline. It was very zen-like, employing an array of earthy tones. There was always a unique idea, theme, or vibe that emanated with each installment. And there was a sense of magic, the kind of rare, eyecatching feeling that makes you pay the closest attention and lose track of time. Adding on to the accompanying soundtracks and sounds, this anime is a good must watch show...

Saturday, January 12, 2008 || ef a tale of memories

Based on the visual novel of the same name, ef is split into two different storylines told simultaneously across 12 episodes. As it being a romance story, you can expect many cliches, but this is definitely one of those anime that molds all of that into a brilliant plot.

The plot is split between two stories, both told simultaneously throughout the show. It follows through different scenes of melodrama, emotional distress, and many touching scenes. The plot is slightly slow for the first two or three episodes but picks up to an amazing finale. At the beginning, you won't understand the story, neither did I. But don't stop after the first episode, it's really gonna get much better and you'll understand the situation! This is a story where you really could cry about.. If you like drama and romance you'll just gonna love this, wait and see.
