:apertureindepth:
this is the containart pavallion located at the central promotory site...it is made up of using recycled paper tubes, and stack up using shipping containers...the artists usage of inexpensive, recyclable material to build up achitecture is widely acclaimed...one would wonder how such materials are able to support the building...
title: lightlines
there are six 50metres long rods of light, which cut through the triangular space of the bridge columns forming a dynamic horizontal axis against the long side og the bridge...the bridge links the fullerton quay and the esplanade...it's quite nice when view at night...when the usual night is lightended up by rods of light...
title: fog sculpture
underneath the start of the esplanade bridge near the esplanade, the artists create a hugh waterfall like fog, which offer visitors a surprise and uniques experience...the artist observe that fog is emphemerel, it has no shape or foam, but can occupy a certain space and becomes a temporary artwork...i was able to see people playing and just simply submerging themselves in the fog...
a crystallize work suspended with nylon wires...i quite like the shapes and the reflective surface of the item...
title: between you and i
this is a light installation...the moment one enter, one would feel the strong wave of light emit above the head...and the hazy environment to enhance the visual light falling down...on further approach, i was able to go underneath the waves of light, and interfere with the light casting ...it felt as if i was being enclosed by these powerful beams...this allow us to have an experience that is essentially sublime in nature when we encounter things in our daily lives...
title: location
within this large environment, the artist create a mysterious and wondrous experience which we would normally be unable to experience...i was surrounded by a vast snowy landscape when i entered the room...it transports visitors to another world, yet it also generates skepticism about one's location and highlights the potential ability to imagine being in other places...is's really serence and one would be able to sit down on the sofas provided, simply just to enfoy and savour every moment of the snowscape, though the hot weather makes you wonder whether its real or fake...
title : manas
this intsallation pursues the idea of utopia across an illusory city...above the city a light shines through from a crater like hole, drawing viewers to look up...it seems that there is some sort of coomunication between the top and bottom...this fantasy of retreat from the real world and an entry to a celestial sphere, is compounded by lighting that creates an awe environment...surrounding the city are eight other mountains, each with their own stories and tales, each carve out as fine as one would see the people living in there...
title: flight
this is an installation of about 4000 slippers perched on bamboo poles, just beside the central promontory site...it looks like this place is at a seaside, espcially with the marina as the backdrop...one would think of preserved salf fish instead of slippers if view from far...this installation, according to the author, pays homege to tradtition while being a fundemental activity in art making...
title: tropicana
this motorcycle is made up of woollen yard...the yard is woven to the shapes with ivy growing around them...the artists usgae of yard makes it flexible, expandable and soft and empheral, which are not the characteristics of a tradiotional sculpture artwork...an interesting feature is that the end of the yard is fix to a motor, and wound up very slowly...this means that by the end of the exhibition, the whole installtion would have disppeared...again, this artwork is fine and delicate, with the woven items showing fine details, even the brand of the bike...
title: blackfield
the plants are made of metal, carved out from the artists perspective of botanical drawings...and on closer inspection, the details are tottally fine and intricate...all the plants are installed in such a way that the colour sides are facing one direciton, while the black sides are facing the other... i saw the plants from the coloured side, and it was cheerful, while on the other side, it was totally stark and loomy... the experience of switching the views is mesmerising...
title: operation supermarket
this is just one of the many products shown at the exhibits...it's a bit off the norm...through digital manipulation, the author gives each product its critical meanings...these products are symbolic of our affluent and comfortable consumer society, but in the artwork, their names become questions that are thrown at the viewer...some may relate them to the condition of the world, or reflect about their lifestyle... hmm...chocolates...
title : raw canvas
what i can say about this painting is that it really requires lots of patience and focus...the artist uses threads of paint, creating weave following the action of weft and warp...i was able to see the wall behind the painting, just as one would see through a loosely fabric with detail in the texture and the apparent iridescence that sometimes bounces off the canvas draped cloth...it is like a cloth that speaks or keeps its secret, as the drip of paint with its grooves and folds make every obessive wrinkle available for one to inspect...
title: the dancer
at first glance, i thought this installation was about a graceful dancer performing in the mess room...but on closer look, one will notice that feet are flexed in corners, hands are bent in one another...there is no angle to have an exact look at the art,the centre is simply the red dress...according to the author, this work reflects the effects of physical destruction and deterition of the body, and with it the human psyche...what you see above are the 'hands, legs, neck' made up of stretchable cords...

this tiny figures are being displayed at the city hall building...i was awestruck by the colourful and great details of the many figures, which are placed in sandboxes...all these are made by children who participated in the arts event...there are also drawings by children...it makes me think of the wonderful creativity of the children...and ponder whether i am able to do all these arts pieces if i were at their age...
title : drill hall
this installation focus on the relationship between time and space...from this point of view, i am able to see a series of continuous lines joining together...as i shift my point of view, the lines disintegrate into their respective fragments...as one travels into space, one begins to be engulfed by the fragmentary nature of the line and shape...the transition between the 2d and 3d tells us what we experience, creating an uncanny disjuncture between image and space that coerce us...
this is set up ay the drill hall if the former south beach camp...
title: everytime we say goodbye
the first impression i had when entering the room was like, wow, every fine details was drawn on the wall using charcoal, and its realistic...the artists want to use the concept of encountering, leaving, and then re-encountering through memory, creating linear journey through the rooms, to create a sense of uncanny deja vu...there are bulbs to light up certain rooms, which make it even more real like...
title: address
this installation was made by a couple, boxed up together into a cube with a hollow centre...the items are from the couple's daily life, spanning more than ten years of collecion...the creators used these boxes as moulds to cast their own belongings as they move to another country...it is a powerful reminder of things transient, conveying the complexity of emotions associated with social dislocation...
