i watched this movie not long ago, walking into the cinema not even knowing what this show was about, except that it's related to war...Iwo Jima is an island of Japan, which the Japan had defended during war world...this movie is about how a group of japanese soldiers were called to this island to build up fortrifications and an extensive underground tunnels as a base to their defensive operation...the main actor is the new general who was posted to the island to lead the soldiers...the many flashbacks he had during the fighting scenes between US and japanese soldiers were able to bring out his emotion on why this war was happenning, when not long ago, he was ambassador to US for friendship...the general managed to hold on the island till the very last moment, when he killed himself as a form of loyalty to the country...

another good point is that the music is soothing, and touching in the sense that brings out their longing for home and families...the soldiers had written many letters to be posted home, but the letters never leave the island...it was dug out from undernath the soil many years after the war, which reflected the feelings of the soldiers as they knew their fate...although some scences were too gross, otherwise, this is a good movie for the young to know how bad a war is.,..
